One of our favourite films here at GTTV, we’re equal parts excited and apprehensive about the news that US network A&E ordering Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Kerry Ehrin’s (Friday Night Lights) Hitchcock-inspired Bates Motel, modelled after the directors’ classic horror.
The deal is for a straight-to-series 10-episode run, which will entail a contemporary exploration of Norman Bates’ early life, before the events of the movie. This means that Bates’ relationship with his mother, Norma, will also be a big feature. Let’s assume it’s going to be dark and twisty, and hopefully a little Dexter-esque.
A&E released a statement saying, “it’s a provocative project from two of the best storytellers in the business, and we’re looking forward to getting started.” The series will most likely premiere in 2013. [TVLine]
